From the vault: Dream (1993)
A short, raw look at East Oakland Graffiti.
We found a vintage news segment from 1993 featuring Mike “Dream” Francisco of TDK. It captures a question that still hits today: is it vandalism or is it art?
Dream’s take was simple and timeless:
“Graffiti writing there’s a message to it. There’s a style to it. It’s truly an art form.”
Clips like this remind us what the culture was built on: style as identity, the push to be seen, and a message that went far beyond the fame game. Oakland carried that energy and Dream helped define it.
